I believe in a God who is perfect. That's how He created our world--everything was good!
But sadly, the human beings that God created sinned against Him. That sin spread to everyone--no exceptions.
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." – Romans 3:23
I believe God expects perfection from us. But none of us even come close to that.
Worse yet, God tells us there is a punishment in store for those who sin.
"For the wages of sin is death." – Romans 6:23a
That's not only physical death, it's eternal, spiritual death. It's punishment in hell.
I believe God loves us and provided a way out of that punishment. God sent His Son, Jesus, to us--who is both God and human. Jesus lived a perfect life for us. Then He died on the cross and rose from the dead to save us.
"God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." – Romans 5:8
I believe that because Jesus died and rose for us, we can have our sins forgiven by God and also live forever.
"The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Romans 6:23b
I believe that to receive this gift of salvation from God, I need to believe in Jesus and in what He did for me.
"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." – Romans 10:9
I believe God's Holy Spirit lives in me, filling me with God's love and helping me live God's way.
"God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us... The Spirit helps us in our weakness... Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God." – Romans 5:5, 8:26, 8:14
I believe God loves me. God assures me He will take care of me forever.
"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him... For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Romans 8:28, 38-39
